Day 10 Saturday Power

March 11, 2017

Power

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

Read Luke 4:31-44.

Man controls his thoughts and his feelings by the use of his innate power.  A quickening from on high must precede his realization of dominion. “Ye shall receive power, when the Holy Spirit is come upon you.”  Man is the power of God in action. The power to control his thinking is the

highest gift given to man. There is a universal, creative force that urges man forward to the recognition of the creative power of individual thought.  The word Jehovah (Christ) is charged with spiritual power far above and beyond any other word in human language.  The power center in the throat is the open door between the formless and the formed worlds of vibration pertaining to the expression of sound. When the voice has united with the life of the soul, it takes on a sweetness and a depth that one feels and remembers. But sweeter and deeper still is the voice of one who has made union with Spirit and can say with Jesus, “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”  I cultivate a loving attitude of mind toward everybody, and my voice is rich, warm, and mellow. As I pray and realize spiritual dominion, I feel vital and

energetic and my voice is strong and vibrant and brilliant. Through these vibrations I feel the power of unity with the higher self more quickly than in any other way. “All power is given unto me in heaven [mind] and in earth [body].”  In His name I affirm: “All the issues of my life are stirred to action by the quickening Christ power, and I have dominion over my thoughts and my feelings.”

From Be Ye Transformed  Lent 2017
By Rev. Pat Veenema

I step into spiritual power today. My I AM claims dominion over that which I no longer want to experience or entertain.
Our spiritual power of dominion is not to be used on others, but on our own egoic self. As we mature spiritually, we claim dominion over our thoughts and our actions. We need not be a victim of what we think. We can surrender the concept of weakness and claim our divine power to be and become the Christ Consciousness expressing.  We can, in the words of the apostle Paul, transform ourselves through the renewing of our minds. The power to choose our thoughts is our birthright.  The power of dominion is centered in the body above the powers of love and wisdom. In meditation, focus on your throat, chest, and belly, integrating love and wisdom into power as you grow into your true self.  Centered in the consciousness exemplified by Jesus, our Way Shower, we are powerful spiritual beings.

Day 9 Friday Love

March 10, 2017

Love

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

Read I John 4:7-21.
Love, in Divine Mind, is the idea of universal unity. In expression, it is the power that joins and binds together the universe and everything in it. Love is a harmonizing, constructive power. When it is made active in consciousness, it conserves substance and reconstructs, rebuilds, and restores man and his world.  As I make a perfect union between my mind and the loving mind of the Father, I realize a goodness everlasting and joy beyond expression. The point of contact is a willingness and a seeking on my part. “Seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.”

Love is that mighty power, that divine quality of God that is expressing through all mankind, and cannot be suppressed by any outside force. I now firmly declare that it is expressing through me, and that no environment or external condition can hinder it. Any unloving condition of the world is no bar to my exercise of love; in fact, it is an incentive.  I am not afraid to pour out my love on all the so-called evil of the world. I deny the appearance of evil, and affirm the omnipotence of love and goodness.

The word love overcomes hate, resistance, opposition, obstinacy, anger, jealousy, and all other error states where there is mental or physical friction. As divine love enters into the thought process, every cell of my body is poised and balanced in space, in right mathematical order as to weight and relative distance.  In quietness and confidence, I affirm: “God, in His love, fills me with new life. In His name I am cleansed, strengthened, and healed.”

From Be Ye Transformed  Lent 2017
By Rev. Lesley Miller

Divine love is my true nature.  Love flows through every cell of my being.

Love is the power that connects us. Love is the essence of who we are. In the Gospels, Jesus teaches us first to love God with all our hearts, minds, souls, and strength, according to the ancient Jewish commandment. Second, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves. Why? Because they are us!

As we learn to love ourselves, our hearts open in acceptance, self-care, forgiveness, and gratitude. Jesus emphasizes that our neighbors are not just people who we think are like us—they are also those we might consider “others.” In his day, that included Samaritans, lepers, women, tax collectors, the poor, and more.

In learning to love our own humanness, we recognize the humanness in others. Love unites us. Jesus knew our capacity to love and showed us how to demonstrate it, in faith and without fear, to those we would otherwise turn away from. This is the kingdom of heaven—that we have love for one another. When we comfort, feed, heal, shelter, uplift, and care for one another, we experience the harmonizing power of divine love.

Day 8 Thursday Wisdom

March 9, 2017

Wisdom

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

Read Matthew 7:1-12.
Wisdom is of Spirit. One can get flashes of understanding at any time, but the clear light of the Supreme shines steadily on us as we become obedient and receptive to the Supreme’s monitions. Jesus always listened for the “inner voice,” and was obedient to it in His meek and lowly work among the humblest class of men.  Spiritual discernment always places wisdom above the other faculties of mind. It is pure knowing, and comes by kindling the inner light. “The wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable.”

This means that as I call the righteous judge into action I may find my standards of right and wrong undergoing rapid changes, but if I hold steadily to the Lord as my supreme guide, I shall be led into all righteousness.

As I dwell upon this all-knowing faculty within, I become conscious of the Christ radiance lighting my mind, and my whole being is illumined. My thoughts are quickened through their conscious relationship to Spirit. I am flooded with new life, which raises my organism above the disintegrating thought currents of the earth; and thus I am not only redeeming my mind, but am also saving the flesh from corruption.

Spiritual understanding reveals that the resurrection of the body from death is not to be confined to Jesus, but is for all men who comprehend Truth and apply it as Jesus applied it. Realizing that I am awakening to the reality of my higher self, I affirm: “Christ within me is my glory. The brightness of His presence wipes out all darkness, and I am filled with life and light.”

Divine wisdom within illumines my way.

As soon as we wake up each morning, we begin making choices.  When we remember our union with God and our oneness with divine wisdom, we can make those decisions centered in wisdom.  Everything shifts when we choose to align with divine wisdom rather than our ego minds. When we understand we have an innate inner wisdom beyond human knowledge, we can allow that illuminating light to move in and through us, guiding our decisions and experiences.

In our thoughts and quiet times, in the inner peace and silence of prayer, we accept the wisdom of God present in us as the Divine Knower, as our constant guide. It is the golden light revealing insights, know-how, and discernment. Aligned with divine wisdom, we make sound choices and positive steps in transforming our lives.

Day 7 Wednesday Strength

March 8, 2017

Strength

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

Read Matthew 4:1-11.

Strength is freedom from weakness; stability of character, power to withstand temptation. It is the force or power to do, capacity to accomplish. “The name of Jehovah is a strong tower; the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” Strength originates in Spirit; the thought and the word spiritually expressed bring the manifestation. Jesus is the greatest teacher. He is the type that I am striving to follow, not only in spiritual culture and in mind culture, but in body culture. By faithfully studying and using the methods of Jesus I am bringing forth the very best that is in me. Through Christ the mind and the body of man have the power of using strength on various planes of consciousness. I affirm that I am steadfast and strong in thought and in deed, and thus I am establishing strength in soul and in body. I refuse to let the thought of weakness enter my consciousness, but always ignore the suggestion and affirm myself to be a tower of strength within and without. Supreme strength as demonstrated by Jesus can be attained by one who trusts in Spirit and conserves his vital substance. The strength of Spirit is necessary to the perpetuation of soul and body and to the overcoming of death. As I relax more and more and lift my consciousness to harmonize with the everpresent perfect Mind, I am invigorated and restored to stabilizing power. No harm can befall me. I am made strong through Spirit. I affirm: “The joy of the Lord is a wellspring within me, and I am established in divine strength.”

From Be Ye Transformed  Lent 2017

By Rev. Jennifer L. Sacks

Centered in the power and presence of God within me, I am strong and courageous. I go forth to do what is mine to do.

Spiritual strength helps us remain confident and steadfast as we trust in the power and presence of God with us and within us, especially in times of transformation. Through prayer and meditation, we activate inner strength, which allows us to:
· Be still and patient
· Create stability from a shaky foundation
· Remain nonresistant and nonattached, especially in the face of uncertainty
· Embrace our own humility and limitations
· Accept what we cannot do or control
· Change direction or attempt something new
· Endure challenges and persevere despite them
· Discern when and how to act, rather than react
· Maintain balance between our heads and hearts
· Trust in a divine outcome, even when we don’t yet see it
As we develop our spiritual strength, we learn to trust and use our intuition—the “God Guidance” we seek. With strength, we find assurance as we discern the best ways to live our lives.

Day 6: Faith

March 7, 2017

6th Day  Tuesday

Faith

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

Read Hebrews 11:1-12. Faith is the perceiving power of the mind linked with a power to shape substance. It is spiritual assurance, the power to do the seemingly impossible. It is a force that draws to us our heart’s desire right out of the invisible spiritual substance. It is a deep inner knowing that that which is sought is already ours for the taking, the “assurance of things hoped for.” Faith working in spiritual substance accomplishes all things. This is the faith that co-operates with creative law. Exercised in spiritual consciousness, it finds its abode, and without variation or disappointment it brings results that are seemingly miraculous. Faith in the reality of things spiritual develops the faith center in man’s brain. When the mental eye is illumined with faith, it sheds a radiance that hovers like a halo around the head and extends in lessening degree throughout the whole body. “When thine eye is single, thy whole body also is full of light.” The halo that the early artists painted around the heads of the saints was not imaginary, but real. This illuminating power of faith covers the whole constitution of man, making him master of all the forces centering about spiritual consciousness. I realize that my faith in the invisible is building a real abiding substance in my mind and in my body. Spiritual ideas grow quickly when planted in the rich soil of my mind, and my body temple changes accordingly. I affirm: “I have faith in the glorious infusion of the more abundant life of Christ vitalizing me. I am lifted up and healed.”

From Be Ye Transformed  Lent 2017

By Rev. Dr. Richard Belous

With faith, I know my dreams and visions are more than possible. My wife Debbie was diagnosed with cancer about six years ago. She recovered, and after several years, was cancer-free. After that experience, Debbie and I had deeper faith that all would be well in our lives. That faith helped fuel my decision to leave a lucrative job in Washington, D.C., and follow the call to ministry at Unity Institute® and Seminary. We did not know where the money would come from to support this venture. But it all came together beautifully when we lived from our faith. However, just as I was nearing the end of my ministerial studies, the doctors said Debbie’s cancer had returned. Our faith is very strong, but I noticed that I wanted Spirit and the universe to respond the way I wanted, at the time I wanted. I see now that faith is a long-term proposition, not a quick fix. Unity cofounder Myrtle Fillmore experienced spiritual healing, but only after years of prayer work. Faith shines through in Isaiah 40:31 (KJV): “But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

Day 5: The Garden of Eden/Twelve Powers

March 6, 2017

5th Day  Monday

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

The Garden of Eden

Read John 14:1-12.
Man’s body temple is the outer expression of the Garden of Eden, which God gave him to keep and to trim. Man’s primary work in the earthly consciousness (the Garden) is to use his creative power to preserve harmony and order in his world, and to conserve his powers for divine direction. The Garden of Eden represents a region of being within, in which are provided all primal ideas for the production of the beautiful. It represents the elemental life and intelligence placed at the disposal of man, through which he is to evolve a spiritual mind and a spiritual body. The Garden is the spiritual body in which man dwells when he brings forth thoughts after the pattern of the original divine ideas. The Garden is the substance of God. God’s greatest gift to man is the power of thought, through which he can incorporate into his consciousness the Mind of God. There are twelve gates which open into this wonderful Garden of Eden. These gates are the twelve faculties of mind: faith, strength, wisdom, love, power, imagination, understanding, will, law or order, zeal, renunciation, life. Each faculty, through the most accelerated mind action, as in prayer, has been purified and therefore opens into the very heart of the Holy City within. I affirm: “My body is the temple of God, cleansed, purified, undefiled, made perfect. Praise God!”

Twelve Powers
By Rev. Ed Townley

I allow my Christ Self, expressing as the Twelve Powers of Unity, to guide me today through every challenge and opportunity.
Through this guidance I AM blessed, and I AM a blessing! We speak often in Unity of affirming the Christ within, but how do we do that? Once we’ve awakened to our true Christ Identity, what do we do with that awareness as we continue to live our mortal lives? The answer lies in the Twelve Powers that will be our Lenten focus for the next two weeks. The Christ can be understood as the spiritual Presence that includes all spiritual powers. The Twelve Powers are specific pathways allowing our infinite spiritual self to express through our limited mortal mind. They are not goals to be attained or rewards to be earned. They are our spiritual essence, to be appreciated and shared. Charles Fillmore devotes nearly a third of his Lenten messages to considering the Twelve Powers, one by one, and we will follow his example. It is by realizing and releasing these powers in our creative consciousness that we begin to transform our lives.

Day 4: I AM

March 4, 2017

4th Day  Saturday

I AM

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore
Read John 10:1-18.

I am a child of the Father, and my inheritance is from Him. I AM is the Christ within me, the true spiritual being, whom God made in His image and likeness. Through the I AM (the Christ), I link myself with the Father, with Spirit, with life, wisdom, love, peace, strength, power, and Truth. I AM is the gate through which my thoughts come forth from the invisible, and it is through this gate that I go to get into the presence of Spirit. The I AM has its being in heaven; its home is in the realm of God ideals. I hitch my I AM to the star of God, and infinite joy follows as night the day. The I AM always assures me that the preponderance of power is in spiritual things. Fear throws dust in one’s eyes and hides the mighty spiritual forces that are always with one. I deny ignorance and fear, and affirm the presence and power of the I AM. “I AM THAT I AM . . . I AM hath sent me unto you.” I realize that spiritual character is the rock foundation of being. As I build my consciousness in God-Mind, I find that I am in heaven right here on earth. I let go of the little self and take hold of the big self. “Not my will, but thine, be done.” The I AM is the will in its highest aspect. The will may be said to be the man, because it is the directive power that decides the character formation which makes what is called individuality. I boldly affirm: “I am a child of God, and I am joint heir with Jesus to abiding life, wisdom, love, peace, substance, strength, and power.”

From Be Ye Transformed  Lent 2017
by Rev. Lesley Miller

I AM an unlimited spiritual Being, expressing in life As a divine creation of God.
In Exodus 3:14 (KJV), God speaks to Moses through a burning bush that is miraculously not consumed by fire. When Moses asks, “Who are you?” he hears the response, “I AM that I AM.” Other Bible versions translate this as, “I will be what I will be.” God truly cannot be confined by human understanding. How often do we remember our own unlimited, divine nature—the I AM we are as God’s beloved? Do we affirm our own God-given gift to be all we can be? Do we affirm: I AM unlimited, I AM health, I AM prosperity, I AM creative, strong, loving, and growing in spiritual understanding? Too often we misuse our I AM power by repeating negative beliefs and thoughts of lack or limitation such as: I AM poor, I AM sick, or I AM a victim. When you say, “I AM _______,” you affirm your thoughts into your mind, body, and spirit. The Truth is you are an unlimited, spiritual being with all of God’s qualities expressing as you.

1st Day Ash Wednesday – Denial

March 1, 2017

From Keep A True Lent by Charles Fillmore

Read Matthew 5:1-16.
Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is so-called from the ceremonial of ashes. Ashes symbolize repentance. John the Baptist came, saying, “Repent ye; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.” Repentance means denial; it is a relinquishment and should be made without too much vehemence. Therefore, I deny out of consciousness old error thoughts, as if I were gently sweeping away cobwebs, and I affirm positively and fearlessly that I am a child of God, and that my inheritance is from Him. As I follow this rule I find that I am letting go of old mortal beliefs and the Divine within is flaming higher and higher. Its pure white light is infusing all my surroundings with a delightful spirit of wisdom, dignity, and peace. I realize more and more the law of righteous thinking that is bringing me into a consciousness of my perfect dominion. In Christ it is not difficult to eliminate belief in strife and contention. If petty quarrels, jealousy, uncharitable thoughts come into my life, I overcome them by a quiet but positive denial made in the realization that no error has any power or reality in itself. I turn away from the belief in negation, and my thinking changes. I rid my consciousness of limited thoughts that have encumbered and darkened my understanding. I break down mortal thought and ascend into a spiritual realm, the kingdom of the heavens.
In the spirit of divine love I affirm: “Forgetting the things that are behind, I realize I am strong, positive, powerful, wise, loving, fearless, free spirit. I am God’s perfect child.”

From Be Ye Transformed  Lent 2017
by Rev. Mark Fuss

This thought holds no power over me.  I release it and let it go.

The thought I’m not good enough played repeatedly in my mind like a broken record or a looping tape.  It was an overwhelmingly negative tape reinforcing feelings of shame and lack.
Once again, the job I’d wanted had gone to someone else.
The evening, feeling miserable, I went to choir practice at church.  In the company of friends, my spirits began to life.  When the new sheet music was handed out, I read the lyrics.  The song we were to learn was “I Release and I Let Go” by Rickie Byars Beckwith.

I release and I let go
I let Spirit run my life
My arms are open wide
I’m only here for God.

As the music swelled around me, the power of those words grabbed my heart.  “I release and I let go.”  I realized I could let go – the negative tape playing in my mind held no power over me.  I could release it and choose a new thought.
We all have the power to let go of self-defeating thoughts.  What thought do you need to deny and release today?

In my backyard

February 20, 2017

flickered in and out of being this morning.  I almost missed it as I sat staring into space.  A quick gust of wind and a sliver of light caught my eye, seemingly suspended in air just below a magnolia branch.  And then it was gone.  I did a quick close and open of eyes ~ nope not there.  I tilted my head to the right ~ then to the left ~ nope. Then another of short burst of wind ~ there is was again.  I could now see that it was connected to the branch at the top, but it was not evident where it was anchored at the bottom.  So I sat still and observed that single strand of liquid light ~ it popped in and out of my world view as the winds moved through my backyard.  Just when I thought it had been blown away, there it was again ~ maybe that’s what God is ~

My Credo Part IV

March 25, 2008

This is the fourth part of the credo project.  Some of the material in this post has been posted previously as separte items.

I begin again with my Statement of Beliefs – some of which has evolved since the first paper:

  • I believe that there is only one Power and Presence and that that Power and Presence is life-affirming.
  • I believe that I and all living things are holograms of that Power and Presence – one point in that Presence that contains the entirety of that Presence.
  • I believe that “all that exists and beyond all that exists” is that Presence – connected substance – simultaneous energy points and at the same time unique manifestations.
  • I believe that how I think and what I think configure the out forming of that Presence, manifesting physically as the energy that is consciousness moves through that point that is “me.”
  • I believe that how and what I think create the conscious experience called “feelings” as specific “things”, for “feelings” are energy without charge or meaning until I “think” a label, name, meaning.
  • I believe that consciousness evolves – in individuals and in collectives.
  • I believe that when my thoughts, feelings and actions come from a limited consciousness, I create the perception of a less than whole life.
  • I believe that regular and conscious use of prayer, meditation, and directed thought can increase my awareness of wholeness/oneness and bring me and my “world” into alignment with that One Power and Presence.
  • I believe that my purpose in this lifetime is to consciously experience the oneness in all points of energy as I come in contact with them and through every manifestation of my thoughts and feelings.

And now more commentary:

This fourth part of the credo is to address humankind’s relationship with God – what is an individual’s part in that relationship; what stands in the way of that relationship; can anything restore a broken relationship.

This discussion draws heavily on the beliefs outlined in part III – the nature of God.

First, as stated in my Statement of Beliefs, I believe that I, and all living beings, are points of manifested energy in the soup of Universal Being.  Because of this, my relationship with that Universal Being is both organic and symbiotic.  One cannot exist in this dimension without the other.  I am brought forth from that Beingness/Source and I then find that I must define that Beingness/Source in terms relevant to my level of consciousness and understanding in order to create relationship.  As my consciousness evolves, my understanding and vision of that Source also evolves.

I do believe that in each level of consciousness evolution, we manifested points of energy must create an image or images of Source/God that will allow us to address the questions of ‘who am I?’, ‘what am I?’, and ‘why am I here?” I believe that today we have present on the planet a wider range of “consciousnesses”  than at any other time in our history.  As a result, we as a species are holding a wider array of these ‘images of God/Source’ than at any other time in our past.  Using the Spiral Dynamics model of consciousness evolution  as the framework in which to review these various images, we find in our world elements of the Egocentric Red God – Power god – warrior – concerned only with “his” own people – a god that is guiltless of wrongdoing.   We find the Mythic Blue God – separate and apart from humans – ethnocentric – a god of law – patriarchal.  We find the Scientific Orange God – universal – humanist – giant within waiting to be empowered – requiring no dogma – embracing materialism and pragmatism.   We find the Sensitive Green God – both masculine and feminine – relativistic – god of the downtrodden – honors multiple mystical paths – against war unless for righteous cause.  And we have emerging the Integrative Yellow God – universal – god of systems, integration and paradox – manifests “godself” through evolutionary process – fosters the ‘magnificence of existence’ – god of all religions and peoples.  I believe that from each of these different images will come different relationships between God/Source and humankind, individually and collectively.  In addition to this framework of consciousness evolution, I believe that we must also look at the three aspects or faces of God/Source that our human nature reaches out for as we move into the creation process.   According to both ancient and modern philosophers and pundits, the three perspectives or faces of God are as follows:    “I” – God in 1st person: the true Self, Christ-nature, the eternal “I am”, interior, Intersubjective.

“Thou” – God in 2nd person: the almighty Other, the Savior, the ego-humbling Divine, exterior, Objective.

“It” – God in 3rd person: the Kosmic evolutionary process, the Web of Life, transcendent, Subjective.Based on my own limited reading and study, I have come to believe that for individuals operating at certain levels of consciousness mentioned above, one or more of the three faces/aspect of God/Source may not be accessible and this inaccessibility plays a significant role in the defining of God and our relationship to God.When an individual or group is operating from within the Red and Blue perspectives, I believe that the 1st and 3rd persons/faces of God are generally overwhelmed by the 2nd person – the exterior Almighty Other.  In the case of the Red consciousness, this might manifest as the political/warrior leader seen as God, e.g., Caesar as God.  In the Blue consciousness, God, i.e., Jehovah, Allah, Jesus as God/Man, is defined as separate, anthropomorphic, omnipresent, omnipotent, and omniscient.  These Blue Gods appear to be defined within cultures and each one is seen as the true God by its own believers/followers to the exclusion of the others.  I believe that these Red and Blue images of God leave very little room for a Christ Self within the individual nor do they allow for an Oneness Creator, transcendent Web.   This is not to say that individuals operating within a Red or Blue consciousness can not find all three faces/aspect.  I just believe that it is very difficult.Interestingly, as consciousness evolves to Orange and Green levels of consciousness, the 1st and 3rd faces/aspect seems to take on a much more prominent role almost in reaction to the very strong 2nd person face/aspect that is defined in Red and Blue.  That strong 2nd person view appears to be pushed to the background or dropped almost completely in favor of that personal, internal Higher Self, Christ Self of the 1st person and the emergence of a more transcendent Presence that is seen as the Oneness of all religious faith traditions, with their various rituals and creeds.  I believe that the evolution to the Yellow tier of consciousness brings with it a more balanced approach to all three faces/aspects of God/Source.  From this perspective of integration and allowed paradox, one can recognize that each face/aspect exists inclusive of the other, not exclusively.  With each of these shifts in consciousness and perspectives/definitions of God/Source, the relationship between God and Humankind will also change.  When God/Source is defined anthropomorphically as with the Red and Blue gods, our relationship with that God most often takes on the characteristics of political and/or familial relationships such as Caesar as God, God as Father.  We become followers, children, siblings with all the attendant restrictions, responsibilities and dysfunctions.  In those relationships, we are called on to obey the rules, ask for permission/forgiveness, to not talk back.  Punishment is meted out for the wayward.  Rewards are giving to the good.   The sciences and God are often viewed as antagonistic at best and mortal enemies at worst. In these relationships, the individual is considered less than the leader, the father, the favored son – not unloved or uncared for, just not the same.  Each of these relationships when built on eternal principles of Love, Peace, Justice, Compassion, Joy and Abundance can be powerful and fulfilling and, ultimately, I believe will lead to evolution to a higher consciousness of God.   When built on limited understanding of those principles and limited world view, these relationships can be damaging and unhealthy.  When God/Source loses its anthropomorphic character and is defined as universal principle, Divine Mind, Pure Essence as occurs in the Orange and Green levels of consciousness, I believe the relationship with humankind shifts to that of partner, co-creator.  This shift emphasizes connectivity, oneness, inclusivity.   I believe that this shift brings about a greater emphasis on personal introspection and growth.   Individual definition of “right and wrong” rather than guidelines/law handed down from one source set the framework for ethical or “right” living.  God becomes a barometer against we can measure and evaluate our thoughts and actions rather than the arbiter, judge and enforcer of us as thinkers and doers.  And even at this level, there is a sense of being not completely one with that Source.  Using the “To me, By me, Through me, As me” model, the Orange and Green levels of consciousness might best be described as “Through me” thinking, as the Red and Blue levels would be the “To me and By me” thinking.  I believe that most of us are working in the Blue/Orange/Green levels of consciousness. Having said all that, I also believe that that which blocks our relationship with God/Source, however it is defined, is the finite view that comes with a world of duality and our acceptance of it as the only view.  At each level of consciousness, we have within us the capacity to move through states of consciousness:

  1. gross-waking states
  2. subtle-dreams states, e.g., vivid daydreams, visualization, certain types of meditation
  3. causal-formless states, e.g., deep dreamless sleep and yoga, meditation
  4. witnessing states, i.e., the capacity to witness all of the other states
  5. ever-present nondual awareness, i.e., the ever-present ground of all states – oneness

These states and the tools used to achieve them may be called by different names at different levels.  And yet, if an individual truly seeks the pure knowing of God, the experience of nondual awareness can be the same.  Mystics of all ages and all traditions describe that singular space of oneness – the metaphors and language used are cultural; the experience is transcendent.   When the relationship between God/Source and an individual, me, is “broken,” it is not God that breaks it.  The break comes from me, the individual, as I close down or narrow the scope of myself – whether I close down or narrow my mind or my heart.  In either case, I have put up a barrier around my point of energy, blocking out the flow of energy to and from all other points of energy.  I put my self in a ‘non-real’ situation – an isolation chamber – and from that disconnect comes the energy that we label fear.  Without that connected flow, I begin to act as sole creator and the “material” with which I create is only a shadow, an illusion.  If I do not reconnect – remove the barrier – I will find myself scrambling within a very narrow space to shore up my creation and the ‘material’ I use will ultimately wear out because there is no renewal and replacement.  In the Red and Blue world, I would call this sin and because I am less than God, I am told that I can not repair the break myself.  There must be a redemptive act, a sacrifice, which I surrender myself to in order to re-establish the connection.  In the Orange and Green world, I would call this error or mistake.  To re-establish the connection, I would turn inward to identify the choices/events/thoughts that led to the error and correct them.  This is not as easy as it sounds since so much of my thought and choices happen in a subconscious mode.  While there is no redemptive act or sacrifice, there is often the need to surrender to the other than conscious part of my self to shift the pattern back to connection.  In the Yellow world, I’m not sure what I would call this – maybe just a break.  My sense is that the “corrective” action is more one of objective observation and identification and acceptance of the potentiality that the action opened up.  I like to think that, at times, I find myself in the Yellow level.  When I sense that I’m there, I do realize that I don’t have the words and metaphors for it yet.And while I learn and integrate the language of that Yellow level, I will continue to use the words, the metaphors, the images that I know: prayer, meditation, denials, affirmations – the tools that release the fear, the pride, the ego and re-connect me with the constant flow of God; the energy pattern established by the life and teachings of Jesus of Nazareth living as the Christ on earth into which I can stand and raise my own vibration.  As a minister, I know that I will encounter and serve individuals who are walking in each one of these levels of consciousness and it is important that I recognize where each individual is on this journey and find the words, metaphors and images with which they can relate.
